Intelligentsia Abbot Kinney

If you have never been to Abbot Kinney before and you live in Los Angeles, go. Now. This hipster mecca has a lot more hiding up its sleeve than most streets in Los Angeles. One of these gems (although not so hidden) is home to Intelligentsia coffee. The entrance to the coffee shop itself is magical-- a high arched breezeway always filled with beautiful people in sunglasses. The espresso bar itself has two different La Marzocco machines and sometimes both are in use although I've only usually seen one at a time being used. They offer both Black Cat espresso and a single origin. From having tried a lot of Black Cat recently, I decided to go with the single origin from "Coopedota, Costa Rica" and which they deemed "bright/juicy/effervescent." The espresso turned out to be very "bright" indeed, but it lost any juiciness in its brightness. Most single origins come through with distinct flavors, sometimes even unevenly and overwhelming, but for some reason just got stuck at "bright" and didn't really do it for me. However, in my past visits, I have had stellar shots of Black Cat.

Updated: I went back here recently and I had a fantastic Black Cat espresso!

Recommend: Come here on a nice day and explore all of Abbot Kinney! It's such a lovely area to eat, shop, and walk around.

Note: They claim to have WiFi but when I tried it it was very spotty...

Vibe: Hipster

Espresso Rating: 8.5/10 (from past experiences)

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

Hours: 6am - 8pm Monday - Wednesday, 6am - 11pm Thursday - Friday, 7am - 11pm Saturday, 7am - 8pm Sunday
