Elabrew (Downtown)
A lot has changed with Elabrew in the past year, although the coffee has stayed consistently good. They have opened a new location in Downtown LA (as seems to be the trend these days), closed their location in Hollywood (read my review here), and are up for hire with a coffee truck. The new-ish DTLA location, located across from Cole's and under the Santa Fe Lofts, is a tiny but impressively painted place. The entire place consists of a front coffee bar and back hallway with a few tables.
As I had experienced with their previous Hollywood location, the baristas have been consistently open to talking about coffee and educating customers about what they are serving from their rotation of different coffees. Most recently on rotation has been Kuma Coffee's Red Bear espresso (although they do have an option for Single Origin as well). The espresso has been different every time, but on a recent visit from trying El Mirador Colombia coffee, it had a honey sweetness and berry taste. So go, if you are lucky enough to find parking, and experience Elabrew in its welcoming and enlightening environment. And enjoy some damn good espresso.
Recommend: Parking can be tough, but there are plenty of great restaurants and bars around this area if you want to come and stay awhile.
Note: They do have WiFi, but few tables and loud-ish music, so probably not ideal for studying, but great for the espresso itself!
