endorffeine
The first time I noticed Endorffeine, I was sitting across the plaza, staring out the window over a large, steamy, lonely plate of phat thai at Pok Pok Phat Thai. From where I was sitting, Endorffeine looks like a pristine laboratory or an under-furnished pastel bar (?). The logo is a bit tricky, so I truly had no idea that inside held the makings of a semi-coffee lab. I finally read about Endorffeine in Sprudge Magazine, which confirmed my sightings. A bona-fide coffee shop in the Far East Plaza in Chinatown! And better yet, the man who started it all is no stranger to the LA coffee scene. Jack Benchakul - who has a background in biochemistry - has run or worked at the likes of Cognoscenti Coffee (the pop-up in Good Girl Dinette too!) and Cafe Demitasse. And his scientific precision and coffee experience shows. My espresso at Endorffeine, served by Benchakul from their sleek machines built into the bar, was almost to perfection. The sweeter coffee drinks on the menu are even more exciting, concocted with precision to the very drop on a scale, such as the Palm Sugar Whiskey Iced Latte or the Pandan Vanilla Latte. I am truly excited to see what Endorffeine will hold in the future.
Endorffeine is serving up Portland-native Heart Coffee from 8am to 6pm in Far East Plaza, Chinatown.
Recommend: Come hungry and get some phat thai after at Pok Pok, or a plate of cheesy fries at Chego!. Or come with a sweet tooth and try the strangely delicious bread ice cream at Scoops. Also, check out East West in the plaza for some tres cool and tres expensive vintage clothing.
